Seed Journals
Each week in the Seed Journal, your child will be responsible for writing an 8-sentence paragraph that requires deeper thinking in reading. The purpose of the Seed Journal is to boost comprehension skills and to improve writing skills. This assignment must be completed at home as part of the weekly homework assignments. However, students are free to work on their Seed Journal during Friday's PLT. We highly recommend that parents help check the quality of the writing and if the writer is clearly responding to the question, as well as following the required format.
Seed Journals must be electronically submitted each week by 8 a.m. at the very latest. Students are to create and submit their entry through the appropriate weekly dated assignment in the Google Classroom Seed Journal 2015-16 folder.
In order to earn full credit for the assignment, students must answer a different question each week from the question list, follow a specific format, properly structure an 8 sentence paragraph, and meet 4th grade CUPS expectations. An entry is worth 12 points.
Below are documents that contain format information, an example of an exemplar 8 sentence paragraph entry, and the list of questions for the seed journal responses. Copies of these items can also be found in the Google Classroom Folder - Seed Journals 2015-16. As well, hard copies have been sent home for students to use as they write their Seed Journal entry as part of their weekly homework.
